Why are documents required?

Telecommunications regulations in many countries require identity verification before a phone number can be assigned. This is to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with local laws.

When are documents needed?

Documents are required when:
  • You purchase a local number in certain countries (e.g. Germany, France)
  • The number type has specific regulatory requirements
  • Telnyx flags the number as requiring verification
You’ll see regulatory requirements listed when browsing available numbers. Numbers without requirements can be used immediately after purchase.

  • Identity document — scan or photo of passport, ID card, or driver’s license
  • Address proof — recent utility bill, bank statement, or government correspondence
3

Wait for approval

Documents are submitted to the telephony provider for review. This typically takes 1-3 business days.
