# Google Maps

> Let your agent look up addresses, directions, and nearby locations.

## Overview

The Google Maps tool allows your agent to perform location-related lookups during calls. This is useful for businesses that need to provide directions, find nearby branches, or verify addresses.

## Capabilities

* **Address lookup** — find the full address of a location by name
* **Directions** — get travel directions between two points
* **Nearby search** — find nearby businesses or points of interest
* **Place details** — retrieve information about a specific place

## Setup

**1. Navigate to tools**

Go to your agent's settings and open the **Tools** tab.

**2. Find Google Maps**

Browse the tool marketplace and find the **Google Maps** tool.

**3. Add to your agent**

Click **Add** to link the Google Maps tool to your agent.

**4. Configure API key**

Enter your Google Maps API key. You'll need a key with the Places API and Directions API enabled.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You can get a Google Maps API key from the [Google Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials).

## Usage in instructions

Reference the tool in your agent's instructions to guide when it should be used:

```text theme={null}
When a caller asks for directions or our office address,
use the Google Maps tool to look up the information.
Our main office is called "Bakkerij van der Berg, Amsterdam".
```

> [!TIP]
>
> Be specific about location names in your instructions so the agent searches for the right place.

## Example conversation

> **Caller:** How do I get to your store from Central Station?
>
> **Agent:** *\[invokes Google Maps]* From Amsterdam Central Station, you can take tram 2 towards Nieuw Sloten and get off at Keizersgracht. Our bakery is a 2-minute walk from there, at Keizersgracht 123.
